4 Signs That Your Garage Door Was Poorly Installed

By January 19, 2015September 6th, 2019No Comments

Not all garage doors in Cleveland are created the same. There are various types and styles. Some are more modern-looking, while others appear more traditional. But the design isn’t going to matter much if the doors are not correctly installed.

How well were your garage doors installed? Here’s how to tell:

  • Does the door stop or close before it’s halfway up? This is probably caused by a broken spring. Failed extension or torsion springs are a common garage door problem. They make the door operate slower than usual. Sometimes it’s just a really inefficient spring. Other times, it’s caused by poor installation. Improperly installed springs tend to break, wear, or tear more easily.
  • Do you have a hard time operating the door? Does it ride roughly and bounce when closing? You might be having problems with the pulleys. They might be worn-out or simply poorly installed. Worn pulleys, faulty cables, and bent tracks can also cause other issues like the door jamming shut.
  • Does the door not open or close at all? If your door won’t budge, there’s probably a problem with the main drive gear. There’s a plastic gear that’s supposed to come in contact with the worm drive gear on the motor. When this component fails because of bad installation, the doors can’t move, and the motor makes an irritating grinding sound.
  • Does the door go back up when you hit the wall button? If you have to hold the button down for the door to shut all the way, you’re experiencing sensor malfunction. The sensors’ LED lights should not flicker when they’re on. Bad installation can lead to more serious problems, such as circuit board issues. If the problems persist, we strongly advise calling in a professional.
