What Is UL325-2010?
The UL325 is a set of requirements that cover different parts of a home that are contained in the National Fire Protection Association codes of NFPA 70, which addresses the installation of electrical equipment in commercial and residential spaces. As for doors and door operators, all of them must be subject to design requirements specific to their use. Among these operators are openers for garage doors in Ohio and all 50 states.
Specifically, the UL325-2010 is a revised UL325 standard that now includes continuous monitoring of all safety devices. This new standard applies to all labeled and listed commercial or industrial door operators manufactured on or after August 29, 2010. All manufacturers that have UL-labeled products should undergo inspections at their factory to ensure compliance.
Aside from the external entrapment protection device installed in OH garage doors, all other devices should be properly installed and must be connected to the main unit. This means that a malfunctioning garage door opener only opens the garage door but never closes it.

If repairs are needed for versions of garage door openers that comply with the old standard, contractors can still repair them without the need for upgrading.
